Heyy Winers!
Of all the wine questions I get asked, “what’s your favorite wine?” is by far the most common. The short answer is, Oregon Pinot Noir. Find out more of my top picks below!
Oregon Pinot Noir:
My go to wine is an Oregon Pinot Noir. It is fruit forward and light bodied which makes it great for drinking on its own or pairing with food. The most famous examples hail from the Willamette valley AVA located on the Willamette river. However, there are other great examples made outside the Willamette.
Current Top Picks:
Kate Arnold Pinot Noir - Willamette Valley, OR
Eola Hills Barrel Select Pinot Noir - Eola-Amity Hills, OR
Foris Pinot Noir - Rogue Valley, OR
Soave Classico - Italy
Made from the Garganega variety. Soave hails from Veneto located on the Mediterranean coast of Italy near the city of Verona. Soave is a great white to try if you enjoy Pinot Grigio.
Sancerre (Sauvignon Blanc) - France
Made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sancerre hails from the Loire Valley located along the Loire river in the western-central part of France. Clean, crisp and bursting with elegance, Sancerre remains my top choice for Sauvignon Blanc.
Rioja (red) Reserva - Spain
Made from Tempranillo, my favorite Spanish red hails from the only DOCa (the highest distinction of quality) in Spain. I prefer to drink a reserva which legally has to be aged for 3 years and one of those years must be in oak barrels. As a result, Rioja Reserva is going to have a fuller body and some secondary notes from the aging like darker fruit flavors or dried fruit. Aside from Reserva, there are also other fantastic Rioja reds to choose from.
